  • OPENING OF CYCLE/FOOT PATH

    Lovat Bridge to Dunballoch

    Saturday 5th September 11.00 a.m.

Community residents are invited to the opening of this splendid new section of the Beauly to Kirkhill cycling and walking route. If you are interested in being present for the opening of this exciting new resource, please assemble from 10.45 on the grass triangle beyond the north side of the crossing point at Dunballoch ( A862 /B9164 junction ) in time for the 11.00 a.m. opening.

Following a short opening ceremony the group will cross the A862 and move along the new path to the point opposite the campsite entrance. Here we will recross the road and gather at the Scout tent on the site for refreshments , socialising and an opportunity to discuss future phases of the project. Of course you are welcome to travel directly to the campsite for 11.30 if this is more convenient for you.

It should be noted that there is little, if any, opportunity for safe car parking in the vicinity of Dunballoch junction. All are asked to come to this area by foot or cycle.

We would be very glad for contributions of home baking etc. from Trust members. Anyone who can offer this please contact Aileen Armstrong ( 831558 ) earlier in the week preceding the opening.

  • Woodland xylophone shelter

If you’ve been to Upper Reelig Community Wood over the winter you’ll have noticed the construction of a wooden structure near the path. If you’ve wondered what it’s for, all is now revealed. Volunteers Sandy Payne and George and Sandra Hogg have just finished constructing a shelter for the wooden xylophone that’s been in the wood for several years. Left in the open it was deteriorating and it needed to be sheltered from the rain.

The shelter has been constructed entirely from timber from the wood at very low financial and environmental cost. The xylophone is now kept much drier than it used to be and should be there for visitors to enjoy for many more years as a result. Bash out a tune in great surroundings!

  • Changes for community centre organisation

We are pleased to announce that Kirkhill District Amenities Association has a new name and structure. Last year we applied to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator to change our legal structure to a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). The new structure is more suitable for the organisation and will give the committee members personal liability protection.

The SCIO has been set up and we are now in the process of transferring all the assets including the property into the new body. We are very grateful to solicitors Innes and Mackay for their support in this process.

And the new name?  We thought it would be a good to give the name the Ronseal treatment and so it is now Kirkhill Community Centre. We’ll be changing our invoicing and bank accounts shortly and will inform users when to change to the new name.

The SCIO structure requires us to have a membership that supports the organisation and can vote at general meetings. A strong membership will help us deliver great facilities for all the community and we would encourage you to join. Membership forms are now available here and from the secretary and in the hall foyer.

  • Cubs Camp at PGL Dalguise

The Kirkhill Cubs Scouts went to PGL Dalguise in Perthshire for the weekend of 1st-3rd May and had a fantastic time, despite the wet weather on the Sunday. There, they took part in various activities, including mountain biking, raft building and quad biking as well as going on a giant swing and a zip wire.

Here are some of the photos from the weekend, with more to come.

If you fancy joining in the adventure as an Adult Leader, please contact one of the Leaders or e-mail kirkhill.cubs@hotmail.co.uk
